The Meaning of Educational Journeys

Educational exchange programs are so popular nowadays. I took part in one of them.
When it comes to attending university, I thought it would be a great experience to do so abroad. I was passionately inspired by what I saw and the way that I was able to be a part of the cultures that I visited in a way that I would never be able to do in any other context unless I had studied abroad. I decided that I wanted to bring that experience to others as well so when I returned from my session abroad I went to the school counselor and told them that I wanted to share these ideas with the rest of the school. A session was created with the sophomore class in attendance and I spoke about the cultural experience I had while I was living abroad and why it is so important for other students to experience this for themselves.
The speech was very powerful and I was mentioned in many of the other student’s personal statements when they were applying to college because I was able to motivate them to go and study abroad. By studying abroad, the students were offered a perspective on respect for foreign cultures that could never be obtained inside a classroom and they were ready to become better citizens of the world. Having been a part of Harvard’s summer program was a huge influence on my life and a blessing that allowed me to bring my experiences back to share with my own school. A fact that bought a positive impact to many students hat I associated with. It basically acted as a motivating factor to other students who wished to have the same experience.
If every student had the opportunity to do the same thing it would mean that the world would be a very different place full of understanding and people who knew what it meant to be a part of something that is bigger than themselves. Students would learn to be cooperative citizens of the world and have a new level of tolerance which might lead to a world characterized by peace. Therefore, educational diversity plays an important role in making the lives of students better than it would have been without such diversity.
